GRE (General Test)

The gold standard for MS programs in the US and globally.

  • Format: Computer-adaptive (section level).

  • Duration: Under 2 hours (shorter version).

Sections:

  • Verbal Reasoning: Tests vocabulary and reading comprehension.

  • Quantitative Reasoning: Tests high-school level math (but with tricky logic).

  • Analytical Writing: One essay task.

Score: Out of 340. A score of 320+ is considered excellent for top-tier Engineering/Tech programs.

GMAT (Focus Edition)

The specific test for business schools. The new “Focus Edition” is shorter and more efficient.

  • Format: Computer-adaptive (question level).

  • Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes.

Sections:

  • Quantitative Reasoning: Problem-solving without geometry.

  • Verbal Reasoning: Critical reasoning and reading comprehension.

  • Data Insights: A new section testing your ability to analyze business data.

Score: Out of 805. Top B-Schools (Harvard, Wharton, LBS) typically target high percentiles.
